Staying positive by creating your future life.

With the state of the world at the moment, it can be difficult thinking about life after the coronavirus.

Many people are facing insecurity in a multitude of forms, and there is a general air of instability and a lot of speculation about whether things will go back to the way they were, or if some things will see a more permanent change.

Sometimes we can feel lost in our ever changing world.

Unsurprisingly, these thoughts can quickly become overwhelming and have the ability to negatively affect our mental well-being.

The key to taking all these changes and uncertainty in our stride is to focus on the things we can change.

The world has temporarily ground to a halt and we can take advantage of this time by planning for the future we want.

By focusing on what we can change, we regain some control over our future and can really think about where we want to be once this is all over.

So where do we start? Let’s break it down into easily manageable steps.

1: Re-evaluate.

Give yourself a quiet moment and sit down with a pen and paper.

Take your time and jot down a few points about what you want your life to look like once this is all over.

You might like to spend more time gardening or growing your own food.

You might like to spend more time on hobbies and doing things that nurture your creative side, or perhaps you want to do something major such as starting your own business. Maybe you want to learn a new skill or do some volunteer work or even start growing your own food.

Whatever the dream is, write it down without judgement and let your hearts desires come through onto the page.

Once that’s down on the page, begin by examining what you have right now that is working for you and will help you to make those dreams a reality.

This could be a supportive family, a good work ethic, the right equipment or even just the right attitude to get started. Whatever is working for you right now, write it down.

Now do the same again, but this time for things working against you that will hinder your progress. This could be low self-esteem, worrying too much about what people think, toxic friendships or relationships or even feelings of fear of failure. Again, note everything down without judgement.

2: Shake it off.

Now that you have an idea of what you would like your future to look like, as well a list of things of things that will help or hinder you, let’s now consider what will be important for you moving forward.

In order to move forward, we need to shake off the things that no longer serve us or are holding us back.

This may mean making some difficult decisions such as cutting ties with an unsupportive, toxic friend or saying no to those who demand too much of your time and energy yet give nothing in return.

Let go of the things that no longer serve or support you.

Value your self worth by asking if they deserve the time and effort you put into the relationship. if the answer is no, love yourself enough and use your personal integrity to say that you are worth more and shouldn’t have to put up with a one sided, unsupportive and selfish relationship.

This will be incredibly hard at first but it is no use holding onto things that hurt you or make you miserable. Love yourself enough to let these things go.

At the same time, look closer at what is serving you and making you happy and be sure to add more of those kinds of things to your life.

Hold on to the good things and shake off all the negative energy. You won’t need that in your future.

3: Focus on what you CAN do.

Now that you’ve got a good idea of what you need to leave in the past and what can come with you, let us now focus on the things we can actually do to make this future a reality.

We may not be able to go out but there is so much we can do to prepare for this new future.

Consider the following:

Time to show the world what you can do!

Online courses to help you learn a new skill or gain a qualification.

Follow online tutorials to learn a new skill.

Practice something you would like to get better at such as, writing, sewing, baking or gardening.

Make a plan with a goal in mind and map out how you can get there.

If you’re starting a business, work on creating a website.

This is just a small portion of the many things you van do to make your dreams a reality once this coronavirus is all over.

Right now we are in our cocoons. Get ready to emerge as a beautiful butterfly, living your best life and following your heart.

You owe it to yourself.
